KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA - JULY 03: Muslims hold placards as they shout slogans during an anti-gambling protest outside National Mosque on July 3, 2010 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Hundreds of Malaysians gathered at the rally calling on the government to revoke sports betting licenses ahead of the 2010 World Cup finals. Despite the Prime Minister’s announcement last week revoking his decision to legalize sports betting, the decision is still unclear and ‘unofficial’ according to the organizer of the anti-gambling movement. Malaysia had considered legalizing the process during World Cup season in a move to reduce illegal sports betting activities in the Muslim-majority country. The signs (L-R) read ‘People’s first, license for gambling on World Cup soccer has been cancelled, can we trust them’, and ‘Gambling is always forbidden within the religion of Islam as it brings about crime, robbery & encourages laziness’.
